If
checking the usual spots hasn’t turned up your missing device, Find My iPhone
can help.4 Just sign in at iCloud.com or use the Find My iPhone app on another
device to locate yours on a map, display a message on its screen, remotely set
a passcode lock, or initiate a remote wipe to delete your data. With iOS 6,
iCloud offers Lost Mode — making it even easier to find and protect a missing
iOS device. Lost Mode immediately locks your device with a four-digit passcode
and sends it a message displaying a contact number. That way a good Samaritan
can call you from your Lock screen without accessing the rest of the
information on your device. While in Lost Mode, your device even keeps track of
where it’s been and reports back to you when you check in at iCloud.com or on
the Find My iPhone app.
Install
"Find my iPhone" from the App Store and make sure you're all set up
on iCloud. A friend lost her iPhone at a party over the weekend and had
"Find My iPhone" on her device, but wasn't set up over iCloud! You
need both, folks, so head over to www.icloud.com and set up an account and do
the same in your phone under Settings (in Mail, Calendars, Contacts).
